Traveling through Idaho on the way to Boise, there are these huge lava fields....and it truly does look like a moonscape....I stopped and hiked around a little walking through some lava flows, up a cinder cone and into some caves.
Pahoehoe lava is the smooth ropy looking one and Aa lava is the rough jagged one..both Hawaiian words.
The Inferno Cinder Cone is a steep climb with the steepest part at 15°, doesn't sound like much but that is steep. My feet were almost black when I got back to the van.
No vanity here..HA! The cave was beautiful though...the inside of a lava tube actually.

You are getting in my neck of the woods. I grew up 80 miles from Boise. Eat at one of the Basque restaurants while you are there. There is a Basque Museum too. - Stephanie (Eiguren) Shipman
Where were you raised?
In Jordan Valley, Oregon - about 80 miles southwest of Boise. We have to go to Boise or Nampa to go to the doctor or do any kind of shopping. Jordan is high desert country. only 200 people in the town.
