Electric cars - wave of the future and now!
I went to the Renewable Energy Roundup and Green Living Fair this weekend. Saw lots of alternative building materials, like rammed earth blocks, cement with air blocks, metal studs, insulation made of blue jeans and many other cool ideas.
I thought this electric car was great...made by Pontiac, they made 32 of them in I forget what year? This guy bought it off EBay for $6500 and drives it 35 miles every day.
It only cost 1 - 2 CENTS per mile to drive!!.....plugs into a 110 outlet (the solar panels add a little juice but are mostly for looks), has a range of 100 miles a day and goes at least 70 mph.....now thats efficient...makes you think that Al Gore's proposal of having the electric grid powered by solar and electric cars is definently doable...by 2018.....lets go!!

Thoughts of returning.....after 2 years!
It seems a little strange coming back this time and I think it's because I don't have any plans to go back to Mexico for a few months and I have my car which makes being here just like it was before I moved to Mexico 2 years ago!! It is also a time to reflect on where I have been, people I have met and what I have experienced. I created this blog to share with my family and friends the experiences I was having, but now I find it is a great way to remind MYSELF of the incredible opportunities I had!! I don't know if I will continue it as my life will be a bit more sedentary for the moment (I can hardly believe I am writing those words!). My plans are to help Laura design a horse barn and oversee the construction and then build a composting toilet onto my studio, making it a liveable space for me or anyone else.
So we will see.....right now I am in the middle of this most amazing book that was waiting for me when I got home......I am on a journey to the BEYOND!! Peace and love to everyone!! cynthia

Crossing the border
After some consideration and some phone calls we decided to cross the border at the Colombia International Bridge about 15 miles north of Laredo. I had never crossed there before but I liked the fact that it was not near the city of Laredo. It was not marked on any of our maps but there was appropriate signage which was amazing to me.
As we arrived I was equally amazed to find that there was NO LINE...can you believe it!...not one single vehicle was in front of us...we just drove up to the Mexican side, paid our 24 pesos and drove across the Rio Grande, and then got to the U.S. side, was asked to put the car in park, they asked where we were coming from, going to and did we have any thing to declare? After opening the back doors of the car and taking a peek inside they let us go. Of course its easy to look innocent when you really are!! HA! I was a little concerned that I would have a problem with my car being in Mexico for 2 years, but I did renew my 6 month permit at Puerto Juarez north of Cancun before I left...and the only thing I had that was illegal was a stalk of Chaya that I put under the backseat...I was going to say that stick was my defense in case I needed it, as I had removed all the leaves...now it is sprouting in a pot in my garden where I hope it will grow some Mayan spinach!!
Then there is a new toll road 255 that takes you to Interstate 35....I highly recommend this border crossing for anyone going to Mexico!!

Rancho Avándaro
We stayed at Flor de Maria´s parents house at Rancho Avándaro. My daughter, Laura Beth flew to Toluca, Mexico to drive the remaining half of the trip with me. Here is Flor with one of the horses....we are checking out the horse barns to get some ideas as we will be designing one for Laura Beth in Texas, but I can assure you it won´t be this fancy!

U2 in 3D
As we were looking through my favorite magazine, National Geographic, there was an AD for a production release that I was very interested in seeing...UDin3D....so when we got to Mexico City we made a point to find the IMAX theatre that was showing it!!

Wow how amazing! That Bono...he was in my lap!!! I am convinced...this is the way to see a concert!! In absolute comfort and it feels like you are right there....the surround sound, the audience was particating like it was real....the photos don't capture the 3D even when I put the glasses in front of the lens as it would need to have 2 camera lens in stereoscope vision....I did take as much video as my little camera would take though!!
