Driving through the Jemez Mountains, we passed some of the destruction caused by the Los Alamos fires.
It wasn't long before we encountered SNOW!!
Then we found ourselves driving across this large caldera (collapsed crater) that was formed about 1.2 million years ago. For over 10,000 years people have used the caldera for hunting, gathering plant foods and a source of obsidian, that black glass-like volcanic rock used for tools.
On our way up the mountain we passed this trail and stopped for a short hike and look see, discovering a very beautiful mountain stream with pockets of snow everywhere and it was COLD!
