Palapa Buildng 101 continued

Construction continues as we needed a better north wall to keep the cold north wind at bay...Yes we have had some cold ass weather too....As you can see Allan made it really fancy with a flap down window....and the bathroom is near completion also....notice the tortoise shell window there...its important to see the water when you are sitting on the throne! HA! We will show the inside next week when the desk and cabinets are finished!!
Couch sitting and eating!

I have to admit we spend a lot of time watching the bay from our couch! We also watch our night fires, and cook our meals there too...and we do have some really gormet meals..we call the fireplace.."la herradura" spanish for horseshoe..hence the shape....can you believe I am becoming a couch potatoe?!! HA!!
Kayaking on Bahia Concepcion

This bay is just perfect for kayaking!! Actually we are on a bay within a bay so its super calm and almost wind free! The water is crystal clear...you can see all the plankton in the water which is why this is a good fishing area as well as for the whales....we can just row over to lots of uninhabited islands very close to our beach....there are mucho brown pelicans...its so much fun to watch them dive bomb into the water....we learned that white pelicans don't dive.

Sea Snakes

Yikes! We found this guy right in front of our palapa.....the ID book says its an Anguila Tigre Eel...........TK what do you think? A local called it a coralillo (coral snake).....at any rate its dangerous and I will be looking in the water more closely when I go for a swim...the water now is 64 degrees...brrrrrr
On the way to town

The cardon cactus is all over the Baja...it is the tallest cactus species in the world, growing less than an inch a year..some of them are 400 years old!! The 20 minute drive to town is beautiful....lots of views....this is Highway 1 that goes the entire length of this peninsula...over 1000 miles.....this roadside shrine is common in Mexico, they are to honor the dead in traffic accidents or the Virgin Guadalupe.

Hola from PalapaLand

I am loving this beach living!!......mostly working on the home front now and getting to know each other.....the beach faces east so we have the most incredible sunrises! Yoga at sunrise while watching the blue whales out in the bay....they tell me they are Blue whales! .....very enchanting this place! The bay is a national marine preserve so its closed to commercial fishing, but Allan has many friends who are fishermen so we get all the fresh shrimp, fish, clams, and scallops we want. Ramon cleaned the "sierra" fish that his brother caught....excellent ceviche fish!! Also

Arrived in the Lovely Baja!!

It is so beautiful here!!! The desert is similar to West Texas Big Bend but with an ocean! We are living in a palapa (thatched hut) about 6 feet from high tide mark...We bought a love seat in La Paz for our outdoor living room....we get water and wood delivered anytime we want it....the weather was gorgeous when I arrived, but yesterday turned cold like the U.S......good day for being in town....will update more on the photos next trip in....hasta tarde.........cynthia

Family visit

Laura and Bonnie came to visit for the first time!! Annie was stuck in the blizzards of Colorado, she got a voucher to come in the spring to do the diving in clear water coral reef that she is so looking forward to!! We took in the ruins of Tulum, dancing at the Blue Parrot in Playa del Carmen after we had drinks in a real cave (Alux), partying at Tuna's, checking out the Cancun beach scene, and general laying back in Puerto....Cousin Donna and boyfriend David were here at the same time...a real family affair!

Jungle Mapping
All this play requires some serious work....I was fortunate enough to get a small job locating some land in the jungle for real estate purchases, using my GPS and a machete. Learning a lot about plant life. There is a tree "Chechen" that is like poison ivy on steroids! Never mind the snakes and varmits, I was watching the vegetation!!
