This is the tallest pyramid (140 feet) in the Yucatan at the ruins of Cobá. Built around year 500, Cobá is estimated to have had a population of about 50,000 inhabitants or more. It is really steep to climb and seems even steeper when you come down. Many of the pyramids have been closed to climbing, like ChichenItza and Tulum, but this one is still open.

Sitting on top of the pyramid for a while can be quite a spiritual experience. You can let your mind wonder as to what really went on up there and what the rest of the site looked like. While on top, we were witness to a marriage proposal by a young American man to his girlfriend. The guy even took the classic "on the knee" position. I never did hear her say Yes....she just kept repeating how much in disbelief she was that he proposed...
