Campeche at night
We arrived to Campeche, Campeche just as the sun was setting.....we met Helena from INAH (Instituto Nacional de Anthropologia y Historia) who is hosting us while we are here!! Campeche is a seaside colonial town with forts, and really old historical buildings that have been beautifully preserved. The first place we went was to the cultural center where just so happened there was a reunion of University professors at the restaurant....we were entertained by several dance groups...here is the Danza de Botellas....typical Yucatan peninsula dance...they start practicing when they are very young to dance while balancing bottles on their head.
Then I felt obligated to have my picture taken with a gigantic statue of Benito Juarez, a past President of Mexico that was an indigenous peasant, self educated and so did a lot to help the people.
Here we are trying to find a lost cave in the midst of the city.
This is a very strange building to have in the middle of a colonial town, it is the Congress building....so the shape conforms to the elevated seating that would be expected.....and of course the lights change colors.
And for our final adventure this night we went to a Karaoke Bar....well let me tell you....you have not lived until you have experienced Mexican Karaoke!! HA! The only reason I have a voice today is because the "NO smoking in public" law that went into effect today for the entire country of Mexico!! Gracias Dios!
